A fresh voice for Alabama's future

Meet Ammie Akin....

Ammie Akin, a trail-blazing entrepreneur, multi-level educator, and longtime advocate for adults, teens, and children with disabilities, is the co-founder of the country's first-of-its-kind "shared" non-profit facility.

Meet Ammie

Ammie Akin is a career educator with a background spanning all levels of administration, from elementary to high school, college and post-grad. She has served as a teacher, elementary administrator, assistant superintendent, college professor and most recently, co-founder of Hub in the Hills, a modern and collaborative campus for non-profits and organizations to share resources, reducing their monthly overhead.

Ammie’s experience spans nearly 25 years in upper-level school leadership. She completed her undergraduate training at the College of Education at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and earned a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at Samford University.

Ammie is christening her next education challenge in the spirit of entrepreneurship with an exciting new project that promotes goodwill and community. Called, "Hub in the Hills," she and her husband, Will, are busy repurposing a dormant school into an expansive and contemporary space for non-profits and organizations to gather and grow.

As the board chair for Unless U, Ammie has remained steadfast in watching many of her former students from her first teaching position at Hoover High School, become productive adults. Today, she's setting the stage for a new phase of Unless U, while attracting other growing non-profits to a new home in Birmingham's Hub in the Hills.

Ammie is the mother of three boys and can often be seen with them as they work alongside in service to others.
